During the same year as man’s first landing on the Moon, DHL began operating the first international door-to-door express document delivery service in the world. When Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn established DHL in 1969, they invented the international air express industry.
Initially, DHL delivered shipping documents by air, so they’d arrive at customs offices and get processed before the freight arrived. This enabled goods to pass through customs with far more efficiency. This was a great concept turned into reality. The company expanded countries and freight options to become the international logistics king.
Today, with revenue of $65 billion and 285,000 employees, Deutsche Post DHL is the world’s largest logistics company, now in over 220 countries and territories worldwide. Their 50th anniversary slogan says it all – Excellence. Simply delivered. No matter what barriers they have faced, DHL kept moving forward, expanding, creating and innovating. There is no level of excellence to which they won’t rise…
