This brand represents ROYAL CHANGE… Last Wednesday, Harry and Megan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, put out a statement explaining their plans to step down as senior members of the royal family and strive to become financially independent. The release of their plans to the public came as a shock and very unexpected from statements we have read from The Queen and The House of Windsor.
There are many speculative theories as to the genesis of the couple’s announcement, but most importantly, the Sussex’s are a young, vibrant, independent couple looking toward the future by striking out on their own. They also plan to continue to support their charitable causes and patronages through their charitable foundations. Brand ‘Sussex Royal’ has been reported to be trademarked for over 100 categories.
The news about their brand may prove the most interesting. The royal family are big business in the UK, reportedly bringing in almost £2 billion in tourism revenue annually. The newly reformed brand of ‘Sussex Royal’ and ‘The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ could bring added revenue that would then be channeled through to Harry and Meghan’s charitable organisation.
As well, even without their HRH titles, the Sussex’s brand is parallel to, and therefore will inevitably compete with, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the wider royal House of Windsor.
In keeping with the message and embracing change, it will be the consequences of actions and choices that will also come over time. It will be interesting to see how it plays out and how the new Sussex brand develops…
